A tiny percentage of athletes go pro. But, if you love the game and you take care of your body, sports can run a lifetime. Friend of GamePlan™ and lifelong athlete Andrew Coggins defines this kind of athlete. With a full-time job and real adult life, Coggins holds down responsibilities while still cooking on the court. We caught up with Coggins after a recent shoot to get his unique take on how to stay active, sharp and in the game.
GamePlan™: Have you used our products? What are your thoughts?
A: Absolutely. They work like a charm! You get that clean, refreshed feeling without your skin drying out faster than the Mojave Desert.
A: My biggest motivator is my mental health. Working a desk job can take a toll if you don’t stay active. If I slack on exercise, I notice a negative impact—that stir-crazy feeling kicks in.The key is simple: JUST MOVE. Whether it’s lifting, running, or chasing a ball around, staying active keeps me grounded. Adding competition—like basketball on the weekends or running a race—takes it up a notch. It’s amazing how that drive carries over into other parts of life, even your career.
How do routines help you perform?
A: Routines condition your mind and body, but the secret is having a goal. If you’re just going through the motions without a purpose, you’re selling yourself short. For example, running a 5K daily is great, but if you’re not working toward a goal—like improving your time or prepping for a race—the routine loses impact. Goals give routines meaning.
A: Good skincare makes you look and feel great, which boosts confidence. And confidence is a game-changer. Think back to the first time you broke out as a teenager. It wrecked your confidence, right? Adults aren’t any different. If you’re not taking care of your skin, it can throw off your game.
A: Confidence is everything. Coaches love to say sports are 90% mental and 10% physical. If you’re not confident, you’ve already lost before the game even begins. Preparation and confidence (not arrogance!) are a winning combination. They give you the edge to perform at your best.
A: Start with your purpose. Don’t pick a sport or activity just because everyone else is doing it. Find something you’re passionate about and go all in. Also, two words: Fail Faster. Failure is the quickest path to improvement. Each mistake is a chance to learn, adapt, and grow. Keep at it, and you’ll turn small wins (like jumping higher) into big victories (like championships).
